- Getting to know the AJ tour guide and the group at 6pm. Welcome to Quito! The largest, best preserved colonial city in the Americas - declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. The city is considered the cultural capital of South America and is located on the equatorial line in the valley at the foot of the Pichincha volcano. Depending on your arrival time, you will have the opportunity to explore Quito's old town and the surrounding area. Adventure Journeys will be happy to organize a day trip for you (please request in advance). At 6pm your guide will be waiting for you in the hotel lobby for an information session. On this occasion the details of the trip and your questions regarding the excursions will be discussed. This first day is for information and acclimatization.
